VOLKAN DIYAROGLU: Memory and Blood

Element Art Space is pleased to announce and be the first gallery in Singapore to present a solo exhibition of a Turkish artist. The show, Blood and Memory, by Volkan Diyaroglu will consist of 13 paintings and be on view from 14 March - 20 April 2014.
Many people have forgotten that Turkey is in fact located in Asia Minor, more precisely in Western Asia, and holds one of the oldest, richest and most diverse history in the world. Its culture today reflects remnants from its prehistoric Anatolia combined with Ottoman and Western culture traditions which results in a “modern” Western state that still maintains traditional religious and historical values. Their influence has spread all the way to Greater Asia and is easily relatable to the audience in South East Asia.Read more

Volkan Diyaroğlu dünyada tanınıyor ama onun derdi yalnızca özgürce çalışabilmek. O da sanatın elitist kazanında kaynamamak için çalışmaları dışında hiçbir şeye kafa yormuyor. Türkiye'de siyasetin olduğu kadar sanatın da mazlum edebiyatı üzerine kurulu olduğunu söylüyor. Halkların da iktidarların üstlerine biçtiği üniformalardan kurtulmaları gerektiğini anlatıyor.

Ressam Volkan Diyaroğlu’nun “Karşı Sanat Çalışmaları”nda açılan 16. kişisel sergisi “Parmakkesicilik-Cutfingerism” şimdinin siyaset ve sanat gerilimi arasında, medeniyeti karşısına alıyor ve izleyiciyin günlük algısının dışına çıkarmaya çalışıyor. Sergide çalışmalarını Valencia’da sürdüren Volkan Diyaroğlu’nun 26’dan fazla tuval üzerine, 28 adet kâğıt üzerine çalışmasının yanı sıra Kasım ayında Valencia Modern Sanat Müzesi’nde sergilenecek olan “Kıyamet Kebabı” adlı video filmini de izlemek mümkün. Küratörlüğünü Altan Marcelli’nin yaptığı sergiye, Cervantes Kültür’de ev sahibi olarak eşlik ediyor. In fact, just the contrary is in question for me: Everything is in the original position as if it was planned before and this shows us the formation opportunity of the unknown according to a different logic in the preferred arrangement. So, when looking at the place where the figures are located, leaving the sectioned view aside, we can see that even the figures, the matches of which can easily be noticed in the outer world, get rid of their loads of representation.Read more

The Art of
Volkan DIYAROGLU

When I was asked to write this article about the work of the 27 year old Turkish born, Spain
based artist Volkan Diyaroglu I was excited and honoured because Volkan is one of the most
talented artists I have ever come across. An artist whose use of colour and form suggests a
heightened visual-spatial intelligence and an extra-sensory perception of the visual language.
However, no matter what I write I cannot do his work justice because it is not the sort of work
that should be written about, it is the sort of work that should be experienced. Neither can I
really explain his work as it is the result of a process that even the artist himself cannot
explain – a process where Volkan surrenders himself to his work and allows intuition to guide
his every move. It is a very personal and intimate process which is driven by the subconscious
mind and is more about the artists own journey than anything else.Read more
