Contemporary Istanbul 2024 / Origins & Identities / Jorge Lopez Galeria / Turkiye
They represent two generations of creators who have transited through diverse geographies and cultures,
enriching their artistic practices through travel and migration.
Both artists, both the young one and his predecessor, have rediscovered and reevaluated their identity in this
process. Travelling is not only a physical movement, but an introspective process that expands awareness and
personal knowledge.
Migrating allows one to see one’s origin from an external perspective, enriching one’s sense of belonging and selfunderstanding,
rediscovering and reevaluating one’s roots, understanding how we perceive ourselves internally, as well
as how we are perceived from the outside.
The project of this artist duo integrates the work of two galleries: José de la Mano, whose research and promotion focus
on recovering the memory of those artists who transgressed the art scene with their radical proposals, and the
Jorge López Gallery, which presents young Spanish and Latin American artists from the perspective of the migrant as
a bridge between their countries of origin and destination.
These two personal collaborative projects join forces to push boundaries and highlight the work of international artists,
alluding to migration, borders and mobility, as well as to memory, recognition and the search for new opportunities and
horizons.
